Temporary Ban Support
This page covers temporary bans on Global Retake servers, usually for griefing, disruptive behavior, spam, or staff-reviewed chat abuse.
Most temporary bans expire on their own. This page is here to explain what likely caused it and how to avoid another one.
What temporary bans cover
Temporary bans are used when someone has crossed the line, but the issue does not call for a permanent removal.
- Griefing, intentional throwing, or sabotaging teammates.
- Text or voice chat abuse, especially when it becomes targeted harassment or repeated disruption.
- Mic spam, soundboard abuse, or message flooding.
- Offensive nicknames, impersonation, or inappropriate profile content.
- Advertising other servers, services, or communities without permission.
How bans are enforced
Moderation is handled manually. We no longer use the old auto-ban or auto-kick setup.
Current filters
- The current filter mainly blocks links and non-ASCII characters.
- The filter does not automatically ban or kick players.
- Staff step in manually when behavior is disruptive, repeated, or clearly targeted.
Temporary bans are based on staff review and context, not automatic chat punishments.
Discipline escalation
We usually scale discipline based on context, severity, and whether the same behavior keeps happening.
| Offense Type | First Action | Second Action | Final Action | Appealable? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minor disruption (spam, mic abuse, trolling) | Warning | Mute or short ban | Longer ban if repeated | Yes |
| Harassment / targeted abuse | Warning | 1-7d ban | Permanent ban | Case-by-case |
| Targeted hate toward minorities / protected groups | Staff review | Temporary or permanent ban | Permanent ban for severe cases | Case-by-case |
| Cheating / exploits | Permanent ban | - | - | No appeal |
| Impersonation / offensive names | Warning | Forced name change / short ban | Longer ban | Yes |
| Advertising | 1-7d ban | Permanent ban | - | Case-by-case |
How to handle a temporary ban
- Check the rule categories above so you know what likely triggered the ban.
- Wait for the ban to expire instead of trying to get around it.
- If you come back, do not repeat the same behavior.
Appealing a temporary ban
Most temporary bans expire before an appeal matters, but you can still ask for review if you believe the punishment was clearly wrong.
- Provide your Steam profile link and the server name.
- Give the approximate time and reason for the ban.
- Explain calmly why you believe your ban should be reviewed.
Appeal channels
- Open a ticket in the Global Retake Discord: discord.gg/zawBAWuYEg.
- Submit one clear appeal and wait for staff review instead of reopening the same case repeatedly.
